On Thursday March 2nd, The British Canadian Chamber of Trade and Commerce and the British Consul General in Toronto were delighted to co-host a reception for local executives in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Guests had the opportunity to network with fellow BCCTC members at the UK Consulate in Toronto as well as hear from Greg Quinn OBE, British Consul General, Toronto, and Martin Buckle, VP & Treasurer of the BCCTC.
Introducing the evening’s forum, Martin Buckle elucidated “Our focus in this year’s discussions for IWD has been on ESG. Our webinar on 1 Wednesday narrowed in on how to build Environmental, Social, Governance into our organisations and business culture, so that it is at the heart of every action, decision, transaction, rather than something that is added on at the end. Our colleagues at LCG and Diageo demonstrated how this can be done on a global scale, and ACCA have given us some tools to make this work at small and medium sized enterprises. This evening we wanted to bring together Executives from our network to talk Governance. Without good Governance, corporations fail at all their obligations: to investors, to employees, to society, and to the environment. Ensuring a broad range of voices are heard throughout our organisations, from shopfloor to Boardroom, is a key building block to successful Governance. We are very excited therefore to join with the Consul General in welcoming you to this deliberation, to exchange ideas, to make new connections, and to try-out some of Diageo’s finest products”.
We'd like to thank our sponsors ACCA, Jodi RumbleDiageo and London Consulting Group, as well as the British Consulate General in Toronto, for their support on this year's IWD celebrations.
