Dear BCCTC Members and Friends,
We hope this message finds you well and enjoying a restful summer. We are pleased to share a series of updates and opportunities aimed at strengthening your British-Canadian business connections.
As highlighted in His Majesty King Charles III’s Speech from the Throne on May 27, a central priority for the Canadian government is driving economic growth. Alongside efforts to realign international partnerships, significant domestic reforms are underway—including the removal of interprovincial trade barriers. In support of this goal, BCCTC members Niagara Economic Development, Investissement Québec, and the Government of Québec recently convened for a collaborative conference focused on advancing interprovincial economic cooperation.
Meanwhile, the UK Government has released its latest Trade and Investment Factsheets, reporting that Canada ranked as the UK’s 16th-largest trading partner in the four quarters ending Q1 2025, accounting for 1.6% of total UK trade. Details are included below.
With Prime Ministers Mark Carney and Sir Keir Starmer reaffirming their commitment to bilateral collaboration through the Growth and Innovation Partnership, we are pleased to highlight the upcoming Canadian Chamber of Commerce Trade Mission to London this fall—a timely opportunity to expand your global reach.
We are delighted to see more Canadian companies successfully establishing a presence in the UK. Guided by its ambitious Modern Industrial Strategy—which prioritizes innovation, digital transformation, and cross-sector collaboration with industry and world-class British talent—the UK continues to position itself as a launchpad for some of Canada’s most dynamic tech firms.
This year has seen growing momentum around shared priorities in AI, cybersecurity, and data infrastructure. Combined with shared values and deep talent pools, these synergies are drawing Canadian innovators such as Cohere and OpenText to the UK. Read more in the featured BetaKit article here.
Looking ahead, from November 2–7 a UK Legal Services Delegation will attend Toronto’s International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference. The delegation will participate in a program of industry-leading roundtable discussions and exclusive networking events to promote UK legal services and foster global business growth. Similar initiatives at recent IBA conferences in Mexico City, Paris, and Miami have facilitated hundreds of business connections and numerous business wins. Stay tuned for details on Toronto events.
We also encourage you to explore the expertise and resources offered by BCCTC member ACCA, the world’s most forward-thinking professional accountancy body. Sincerely,
